Community Policing
DEPARTMENT PRIORITY
INTEGRATED USE OF TECHNOLOGY
Move forward with technological upgrades within the department. Continue our focus on implementing and maximizing use of the departments new Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management System (RMS), and Patrol’s Mobile software suite. Review, test, and procure a body worn camera (BWC) system that facilitates transparency, prosecution of cases, and officer safety. Continue to seek technological upgrades as appropriate in other key areas that enhances services, facilitates community interaction, and streamlines departmental processes.

SERVICE BASED APPROACH TO THE COMMUNITY
Maintain our service based approach within our community to include maintaining a strong police presence in our neighborhoods and around our businesses. Balance having a timely response to calls for service with maintaining a proactive approach to deter crime in our community. Aggressively investigate offenses and push for prosecution to deter criminal behavior and protect victims of crime. Continue providing professional dispatching services to the community through our multi-agency Communications Center. Maintain our strong partnership with the Boardman School District and continue to enhance safety and student interaction through our school resource officers.

A renewed focus towards recruitment, training, and policies that enhance the professionalism of the department. Continued review of every aspect of departmental operations to ensure that duties are carried out in a fair, consistent, and unbiased manner during interactions with both residents and visitors to the Township. As appropriate and necessary implement changes to the department with a focus on adopting best practices which enhance our ability to operate in an efficient, safe, and transparent manner.

FISCAL MANAGEMENT
Continually evaluate, track, and properly manage the department budget to maximize services and conduct operations based upon available resources. Seek grant funding where appropriate and maintain current focus on leveraging support for operations from local, county, and federal agencies. Evaluate existing departmental functions, staffing, and partnerships to best ensure there is a significant value added to how the department supports Boardman Township residents.

EMPLOYEE WELLBEING AND SAFETY
Enhance the safety and wellbeing of the Boardman Township Police Department employees. Focus on proactive programs to better address the stressful nature of the work they do supporting and protecting our community. As appropriate ensure their experiences with critical or traumatic incidents are acknowledged and positively addressed. Better integration and interaction with the community to educate and enhance the understanding of the what, why, and how the Boardman Police Department operates both individually and as part of the law enforcement profession.
